COLBERT COUNTY – It was a terrific day to be out on LaGrange Mountain this past Saturday. The occasion was to observe the 151st Anniversary of the day when Yankee Troops burned the venerable college to the ground. The school was popular. The Yankees, not so much.
Great weather, and a great spectacle of period costumes. Rebel Army troopers were busy collecting up deserters and other scoundrels. They took those hapless men over to the nearby camp where they were reunited with their commanders. Word has it… It wasn’t pretty.
And then there were those brave men. They headed up to the Army encampment to enlist in the war against Northern Aggression.
There was a lot of activity all around.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on the scene to take some EVENT PHOTOS. We present them here. Make yourself a copy. Just NO COMMERCIAL USES PLEASE.
