Opal Dean Cherry Parker – Obituary

opalMrs. Opal Dean Cherry Parker, 97, of Florence, passed away May 2, 2014, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church, bowler, seamstress, liked to travel, active in Christian Women’s Club, great cook, gardening and loved to swim. 
Bill and Opal moved to Florence from Birmingham in 1942 where Bill was employed at Reynolds Metals Alloys Plant. They made their home here and raised their daughters. Opal was a homemaker and until the age of 86 took care of her disabled daughter, Camilla.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2014, in Greenview Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Shawn Farneman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Allen (Bill) Parker; parents, William Frank Cherry and Katie Mable Smith Cherry; brothers, Burrell and Melvin Cherry; daughters, Carol Farneman and husband Joe, Ann Varner and Camilla Parker; son-in-law, William Harrison.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Jamieson (Bob) of Mobile, Ala., Sandra Harrison of Huntsville, Deborah Clark (Danny) of Florence, Carolyn Bradley (Bill) of Navarre, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Clark, Wesley Lambert, Ronnie Cornhill, Clayton Schwind, Kerry Walker, and Del Ledbetter.
Opal’s daughters wish to thank their mother’s caregivers, Pat, Angela, Kelli, and Janice for the excellent care and love they gave mother for the last 2 ½ years
