Christine Elizabeth Chapel, 97, formerly of Memphis, died peacefully on Monday, April 28, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth NRC in Florence, Ala. She was born to Karl and Mary Pantlik on Dec. 25, 1916, in Memphis, Tenn. She was retired from the Shelby County Health Deptartment and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While living in Florence she especially enjoyed participating in the Sunshine Group at Northwood Methodist Church and the Senior Citizen Center.
She was preceded in her death by her husband, Carmie Eldon Chapel; her son, Charles William Chapel Sr.; her grandson, Charles William Chapel Jr.; her son-in-law, Odis E. Haggard Sr.; her sister, Rose Koteski; and her brother, John C. Pantlik.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Haggard, of Florence, Ala., and Donna Huskison and her husband, Dr. Bill Huskison, of Fort Smith, Ark. Her surviving grandchildren include Odis E. Haggard Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Memphis, Tenn., Mark Huskison and wife, Jane, of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Chapel Huskison, of Fayeteville, Ark., and Mary Sibley and husband, Greg, of Killen, Ala. She has six great-grandchildren. A special thank you goes to the staff and caregivers at Mitchell-Hollingsworth NRC and Home Instead Senior Care. Her favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Forest Hill South with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
