Nancy Ophelia Scott – Obituary

Nancy Ophelia Scott, 98, Spruce Pine, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Burns Nursing Home.

Mrs. Scott was one of the strongest and toughest women around. She was a great provider and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved growing beautiful flowers and working in the garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family.

The visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Spry Memorial Chapel. Speaking at the service will be her grandsons, Joel McMicken, Paul McMicken, and James McMicken. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Bernice McMicken, Shellie Hancock, Johnnie O’Neal Scott (wife, Mattie Lou), Athel Scott (wife, Hazel), and Bettye Scott; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; siblings, Wanda Montgomery, Loreen Rikard, Robert Burrow, Polly Martin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie W. Scott; daughter, Vernell Scott Tompkins; son, Jerry Wayne Scott Sr.; parents, Robert and Annie Burrow; and siblings, Grady Burrow, Houston Burrow, Dewey Burrow, Ernest Burrow, Gladys McMicken, and Virginia Burrow.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Burns Nursing Home for their love and care.
