Nelson Acklin, Jr., age 88, died on Tuesday April 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Acklin is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Virgie Roden Acklin; his sisters, Juanita Acklin and Jenny Nance; his brothers, Sammy and Larry Acklin; and his grandsons, Shawn Kelly and Phillip Ashburn. Mr. Acklin was a native of Huntsville and served his country during WWII in the US Navy.
Mr. Acklin is survived by his children, Diane Ashburn and husband Darrell, Marilyn Self and husband Jimmy, and Gina Koger and husband Wayne; his sisters, Carolyn Payne and Pat Cox; his brothers, Jack Acklin and Jimmy Acklin; his grandchildren, Joseph Ashburn, Jason Self, Jennifer Wilson, Hunter Koger, Ian Koger, and Joshua Koger; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and all of his loving family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday April 18th at 1pm at Mt. Zion Cemetery with burial to follow. The family will receive friends on that day at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville from 11am until 12:30pm.
