Funeral service for Jessie Rushidah Muhammad, 67 of Hartselle will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Reynolds Funeral Home with the Iman Abdullah Muhammad officiating. Interment will follow in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Public viewing will be today from 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jessie was born in Morgan County to the late Levi and Daisy Mae Orr Turney on July 1, 1946. She departed this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus.
In 1975, Jessie accepted Islam as her way of life and was a very devoted Muslim. She retired in 2004 from Decatur Health & Rehabilitation as a nursing assistant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Muhammad; her parents, Levi and Daisy Orr Turney; and one son, Calvin Muhammad.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Quantina Caldwell, Latosha Henderson (Kevin) and Wakeelah Muhammad (Chris Fowler), all of Hartselle; three sons, James Muhammad (Denise) of Kansas City, MO, Fred Byars and Anthony Byars, both of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Eloise Turney-Chavez (Jerry) of Chicago, IL, Curley Mae Shelby of Pennsylvania and Dorothy Mae Dunklin of Chicago, IL; one brother, Charles Turney of Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Gaynell Alfred (Albert) and Betty Jean Davis; one brother-in-law, El-Amin Muhammad, all of Atlanta, GA.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
