James Thomas “Jimmy” Hayes, Sr., 81, of Cherokee, Alabama, diedWednesday, April 2, 2014, at his residence. He was a member of Margerum Community Church, and was an U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Reynolds Aluminum after 31 years of service. He was fondly known as the “Mayor of Margerum”, and enjoyed woodworking. Visitation is scheduled for 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday, April 4 at Margerum Community Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, April 4, 2014, at Margerum Community Church, officiated by Rev. Rod Stansky. Interment will follow in Margerum Cemetery. Pallbearers include James Ham, Jamie Ham, Dennon McCullar, Sharman Hendrix, Ricky Longmire, John Hayes, Scott Hayes, and Chuck Clark. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose Ham Hayes of Cherokee, AL; 1 son – Jimmy Hayes, Jr. (Corinne) of Florence, AL; 1 daughter – Randi Bishop (Jim) of Baldwyn, MS; 2 brothers – Johnny Hayes (Linda) of Cherokee, AL; Troy Hayes (Louise) of Leighton, AL; and 1 brother in law – Benny McCullar of Cherokee, AL; 2 sisters – Betty Ruth Thornburg (Neal) of Muscle Shoals, AL and Sally Longmire of Cherokee, AL; and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Gladys Hayes; and his sister, Willie Mae McCullar.
