Robert Lee “Egghead” Smith – Obituary

Mr. Robert Lee “Egghead” Smith , 88, of Florence, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at ECM Hospital. He was a graduate of Coffee High School where he was a three sport all-star athlete. He attended the University of Alabama and Florence State Teachers College, now UNA. He was owner/operator of Theroux Home Insulation Company and department head of the Florence Sanitation Department.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 11-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with John Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Chapman Smith and Katherine Lee Smith, sister, Edna Smith Cathey, and brothers, Allen Thomas Smith and Alvin Henry Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Theroux Smith; daughters, Linda Mitchell (Terry), Florence, Ala., Bettie Smith Wilson (Dieter Instinski), Nashville, Tenn., Roberta Smith McKinney, Florence, Ala., and Mary Jane Smith Finley, Florence, Ala.; grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell, Leigh Mitchell, Robin Mitchell, Amy Reilly (Michael), Shea Martin (John), Michael Wilson (Alexis), Heath McKinney, Brooke White (Brandon), Ryan Brewer (Katie), Natalie Finley, and Drew Finley and fiancée, Haley Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Alex Mitchell, Austin Wilson, Lauren Martin, Bailey Martin, Boston Brewer, Deacon Brewer, and Hudson Brewer; sister, Cornelia Smith Nix; and brother, William Edward Smith.

Pallbearers will be Heath McKinney, Ryan Brewer, Michael Wilson, Drew Finley, John Martin, and Brandon White.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jack’s Restaurant Coffee Club, Bill Batson, Rivers Lindsey, Carl Potts, Paul Evans, and Blake Edwards. Also, members of the Joe Wheeler Fishing and Gathering Group.

Special thanks to Dr. William Heaton, Will Burhans, Dr. Michael Mitchell, Dr. Edsel Holden, and the staff of ECM Hospital, William Hale, and staff of Peake Performance.
