Lillie Beatrice Shelton Crawley – Obituary

LillieLillie Beatrice Shelton Crawley transitioned from an earthly angel into God’s kingdom as a heavenly angel on March 11, 2014. She was born on July 7, 1934 to Oscar C. Shelton and Mattie Pride Shelton.

Lillie confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at New Bethel A.M.E. Church and later joined Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church where she did various Godly duties. Continuing to do the work of the Lord she joined Mt. Olive M.B. Church where she served on the Mother’s Board.

Lillie was a graduate of Sterling High School where she was named class valedictorian. She found her career at Colbert County Head Start where she served for 30 years and touched many little lives along the way.

She was united in marriage for 49 years to Willie James Crawley and blessed to this union was three children: Edward, Sherry and Doris.

Awaiting her arrival to the gates of heaven were her parents, her husband- Willie James Crawley, her brothers- Thomas and George Shelton, her sisters- Mary Hill and Bessie Grant and her son-in-law- James Burt, Jr.

Lillie was a soft spoken woman who was full of wisdom.

She leaves to cherish and share her memories one son, Edward Crawley, two daughters, Sherry Crawley Burt and Doris Crawley Knox, five grandchildren, Corey Stewart, Rodreece Burt, Wesley Stewart, Breaunna Burt and Alexis Crawley, two sisters, Rosie Lewis and Betty Freeman, two brother-in-laws, Marion Crawley (Dorothy) and Curtis Crawley, five sister-in-laws, Helen McNeal, Mildred Mayes, Ellen Hankins, Martha Crawley, Bernice Pride and Annie Dotson (Charles), and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, 5-7:00pm, Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Al.

Funeral service for Mrs. Crawley will be 2:30pm, Saturday, March 15, 2014, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals, AL., Rev. Roger Pride, officiating Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Leighton, AL. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30pm. Public viewing will be Friday, 9:00am – 8:00pm.
