Athens. Proceded in death by his parents Samuel W. Garraway, SR and F. Arlynne (Harribson) Garraway. Born in Columbia, MS. Joined the Army in 1954 as a Private and retired in 1987 as a LT Colonel. Received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and his Master’s degree from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. He attended the US Army War College in Carysle, PA in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vera (Pollard) . Sam and Vera have 3 children; Phyllis (Kyle) Fisher of Springfield, NE; Samuel (Vipa) Garraway, lll of Tampa, FL and Martha (Kevin) Younkin of Athens, AL; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Ginny) Garraway, SR of Zachery, LA; and sister-in-law Carol Frazier of Independence. MO, and 6 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to COPD Foundation.
Services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 11:00 a.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery at a later date.
