BFL walmartTHE SHOALS-The Walmart Bass Fishing League (BFL) Choo Choo Division will bring in the first fishing tournament of the year for Florence on Pickwick Lake this weekend, March 7-8, 2014.

“More than 100 boats are expected,” said Tournament Director Alan Gray.  “Spring is in the air, so the fishing on Pickwick should be excellent.”

Registration will be held at Walmart Store 766, located at 3100 Hough Road in Florence, on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. A pre-tournament meeting is set at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $200 for anglers, $100 for co-anglers. Saturday’s event will start with a 6 a.m. takeoff out of McFarland Park with the weigh in at the park at 2 p.m.

According to BFL officials, anglers will look to intercept the fish as they move through their yearly spawning migration. The winning bassweight is expected to be around 23 pounds.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing — the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2014 BFL All-American is being held June 5-7 on Wilson Lake in Florence. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
