Mary Elizabeth Copley Darnell passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014. She was born in Centerville, Tennessee on July 20, 1932 to the late Gilbert Allen Copley and Mary Jane Bishop Copley. She grew up in Columbia, Tennessee and attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Young Darnell and her sister, Sara Joyce Reinert.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Darnell Cox, son in law, Robert Lynn Cox, and grandson Robert Warner Cox.
She was a member of Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. She was also a former member of the board of directors of The Salvation Army as well as its Ladies Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, from 4 until 6 pm at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama. A private graveside service will precede the visitation at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
It is with the utmost humility that her family wishes to thank her doctor, Jack Bartmess, her caregivers, Sue Grisham, Melody Pickens, Cindy Minch, Geneva Gee, Hospice Advantage, Billie Mock and Angie Jhin. The outpouring of love, respect and care that every member of the staff at Merrill Gardens showed Mary Elizabeth and her family will always be remembered and greatly appreciated more than words allow.
