John David Pinion, 73, of Florence, died Sunday February 23, 2014. Visitation will be 6pm until 8pm Wednesday at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 2pm in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Although born a “Buckeye” he loved Alabama. He was a member of Jackson Heights church of Christ and was retired from TVA after 30 years of service. Mr. Pinion was active with the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, especially the NAMI Shoals. There he served on the board of directors from 1986 until 2010 and was president in 1990. In 2011 he was named volunteer of the year. As a volunteer he would drive consumers to Shocco Springs, AL. He loved his work with the picnics in October and with the Christmas parties helping consumers to keep order.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Roland and Nora Pinion. He is survived by his wife, Linda J. Pinion; children, Robert Kirk Pinion and Angela Kay Pinion; brothers, Roland Monroe Pinion (Norma), Brentwood, CA and Daniel T. Pinion (Bonnie), Corner, AL; sisters, Shirley Florence, Austin, TX, Janie Pinion, Corner, AL, Cynthia Diane Creel (Tommy), Corner, AL.
He was wonderful with his wife, Linda, and children with what love he could give. He will be missed but leaves good memories of his generosity, advice and comfort. He tried to cheer people when he was in rehab in 2011, and then he bought vases and flowers to cheer up someone in rehab or nursing homes. At Jackson Heights he helped with the visitor cards and kept the pencils sharpened.
Thanks Dad for being the greatest father, best friend and most loving person we have ever known. We love you, Dad and we will miss you.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Freed Hardeman College or the charity of ones’ choice.
