Richard Lowery Ponder – Obituary

RichardRichard Lowery Ponder, age 77, of Pleasantville, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Saint Thomas Hickman Hospital in Centerville, Tennessee. Richard was born on January 13, 1937 in Calgary, Texas to the late Ea – Obituaryrl and Drucilla ‘Eason’ Ponder. He graduated from Munday High School in Munday, Texas, attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He was a member of the United States Army and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. Along with his work in banking and Chamber of Commerce, he also worked for over 30 years for Texaco Inc. and Huntsman Corporation until his retirement. While visiting relatives in Port Arthur, Texas, he met his wife Jean Provenzano and they were married on December 30, 1960. They were married for 53 wonderful years. They raised three children together: Paul, Ann and Mark. Richard is survived by his wife, Jean Provenzano Ponder; one brother Scotty Ponder of Lubbock, Texas, one sister Gloria Sisco of La Jolla, California; Children: Paul Ponder of Linden, Tennessee, Ann and Tom Giltner of Hohenwald, Tennessee and Mark and Amy Ponder of Knoxville, Tennessee; Grandchildren: Eric Giltner, Creed Giltner, Madison Ponder and Brittani Thornton. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Harold Ponder, William Ponder, Dan Ponder and Helen Plass. Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences for the family may be made for the family online at www.williamsfh.com. Graveside services at Burton-Ponder Cemetery in Smithville, Tennessee will be held at a future Date.
