Marvin H. Lowery, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Helen Keller Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Colbert County to John H and Grace Lowery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. at Valley Grove Baptist Church, with funeral services to begin at 3:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Officiating is Brother Greg Beasley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Grace Quinn Lowery, sister, Patricia Ann Lowery, and brother, Marlon Lowery.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gayle Mann Lowery;
three daughters, Mia Craft (Jeff ), of Muscle Shoals,
TeLowa McCaghren (Mark), of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and
Grace Oakes, of Murfreesboro;
brother, Ed Lowery (Cynthia), of Franklin,Tenn.;
sister, Betty Jeffreys (Hillard), of Leighton;
and five grandchildren who loved “Pap”, Andrew Craft, Tyler McCaghren, David Craft, Faith McCaghren, and Riley Oakes.
Pallbearers will be Dewey Pace, Larry Allen, T.C.Hallmark, Lanny Jeffreys, Wayne Jeffreys, and Johnny Nixon. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School class.
He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church where he taught a Men’s Sunday School class, served as a deacon, a past music director, was the bass singer for the Thrasher Brothers Quartet, and served in the United States Air Force. He was a great lover of Southern Gospel music. The family expresses gratitude for all the expressions of friendship and love.
