Dr. James Gray Kallam, Sr. of Decatur, Al went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Funerary 1, 2014. He was born October 27, 1926 in Clingman, NC. He is preceded in death by parents George Harrison Kallam, Sr. and Araleigh Calloway Kallam, brother Harry, sister Ann. He is survived by Gerry, his loving wife of 65 years; children Jimmy Kallam (Suzi), Tim Kallam (Christi) and Beth Ellsworth(Bruce); 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Jim served as a Chaplain in the US Army during the Korean War. He had 6 earned academic degrees including a PhD. from NYU. He had a varied career, which included positions as college professor, college president, pastor and administrator of a missionary agency. He was a gifted vocalist who primarily used his voice to praise God. With all his many accomplishments, Jim was a humble man who above all loved God and his family. The legacy of his godly life lives on through his family and the many students he influenced. A memorial service will be held at The Church at Charlotte, 2500 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC on February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation to follow. Because of Jim’s lifelong interest in and devotion to the global ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the family requests that any donations be made to the missionary funds of The Church at Charlotte (Charlotte, NC) , First Bible Church (Decatur, AL) or Mountain Brook Community Church (Birmingham, AL).
