Funeral for Jack Hopper, 89, of Eva, will be Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Jetton and Roger Humphrey officiating. Interment in Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Eva. Masonic rites in chapel prior to the interment. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hopper passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born September 21, 1924, in Oden Ridgea to William Lois and Bessie Hopper.
He had been a businessman in the Eva community for 52 years. Along with his wife, Imogene, he opened his first business, Jack Hopper’s General Merchandise. The business later was changed to Hoppers Building Supply and Jack’s Foodland. He had many accomplishments in his life including being a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Cullman County E-911 board (which he helped establish) from 1989 to 2011. He was chairman of the Alabama Forestry Commission for 12 years, helped establish the experimental nursery at Wallace State College which was named after him, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 854 at Simcoe for 48 years. He was a true pillar of the community and will be missed by so many.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Imogene Hopper; one daughter, Janice (Larry) Smith; one son, Mike (Jimmie) Hopper; grandsons, Joel (Tracey) Smith and Eric Smith; granddaughters, Tiffani (Kerry) Twilley, Valeri (Jared) Long and Lindsay Smith; great-grandsons, Jackson Smith, Taylor Smith and Connor Twilley; and great-granddaughters, Madison Smith and Ava Long.
