bobRobert Coleman (Bob) Hardin Sr., 83, of Florence, Ala., passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014. He was born in Leighton, Ala. on Nov. 21, 1930, to Lewis and Maude Hardin. After briefly moving to Michigan for work, he lived most of his life in Lauderdale County. He married the love of his life on May 28, 1949, and together raised five children. Bob was a fun-loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything. He owned Hardin Service Station for over 35 years. He kept his family’s vehicles running as well as numerous customers and friends who depended on him. Bob was a very happy man who made everyone smile. He passed his love for gardening, fishing, and playing the guitar, to all his children and grandchildren, who all loved their “Pop Bob” very much. One of Pop Bob’s greatest joys came from watching his grandchildren play ball; he never missed a game.

Visitation will be today from noon-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Old Bethel Cemetery in Colbert County.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 64 years, Mary Laster Hardin; sons, Bobby Hardin (Sandra), Tony Hardin (Yana), of Florence, and Tommy Hardin (Kelly), of Springville, Ala.; daughters, Teresa Newton (David), of Thorsby, Ala., and Sherry Dickerscheid (Paul), of Florence; sister-in-law, Jewell Elkins, of Sheffield; brother-in-law, Thomas Laster (Linda), of Tuscumbia; grandchildren, Brian Hardin (Jennifer), Chris Hardin (Brandi), Michael Dickerscheid (Susan), Meagan Dickerscheid, Morgan Dickerscheid, and Cole and Bryant Hardin, all of Florence, Jay Dickerscheid (Mandy), of Tuscumbia, Jessica Hardin (Matt), of Sheffield, and Heather Hardin, of Clay, Ala.; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
