Mrs. Eddie Marie Springer, age 97, of Florence, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. Visitation will be today from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Elkins East Chapel with services at 11 a.m. Dr. Jerry Tidwell is officiating. Burial will be at Harvey Cemetery. Pallbears will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
Mrs. Springer was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Springer; two brothers, Almon White and Rex White; and a sister, Rose McAulliffe.
She is survived by her children, David (Linda) Springer, of Tuscumbia, and Dixie (Buck) Tidwell, of Rogersville; grandchildren, Ray Tidwell, Donna Nix, Jerry Tidwell, Terry Tidwell, Barry Tidwell, and Corey Springer; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Fraulein Butler, Ingrid Butler, John G. White, and Euell White; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Harry and Geraldine Snoddy.
She accepted Christ at five years old and was a faithful servant for 92 years. In addition to being a preacher’s wife, she was also the mother of a preacher, the grandmother of a preacher, and the sister of a preacher. She was a house parent for a Methodist children’s home with decades of service to youth ministries. She loved reading and keeping a personal journal. She was a graduate of LCHS and student at NWSCC in her sixties.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mitchell Hollingsworth, staff station six, Southern Hospice, Dr. Bartmess and Dr. Walker.
