David C. Cook

On Jan. 16, David joined his heavenly father. David was an ordained United Methodist pastor who has served churches in Virginia, California, and Alabama. Most recently he was the pastor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Hampton, Va. while also serving as the Executive Director of the Peninsula Crime Victims Council of Newport News, Va. He received his B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Birmingham Southern College and his Master’s of Divinity from Chandler School of Theology in Atlanta. After serving churches in Alabama and working as a National Guard Chaplin, David was endorsed as a full-time Army Chaplin. He served a total of 25 years as a chaplain working a variety of positions. As an Army Chaplin, David counseled with people in crisis situations and instituted small group sessions to assist victims in finding emotional healing.

David is survived by his wife, Barbra; sons, Kevin and Alan; daughter, Rebekah; sisters, Ginger and Susan; brother, Michael; and granddaughters, Megan, Lauren, Sierra, Kristen, and Zoey.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Shoals Memorial Gardens.
