Gayle VanCleve Ozbirn – Obituary

Gayle VanCleve Ozbirn, Florence, Ala., died Jan. 10, 2014, at ECM Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Washburn Ozbirn; her parents, Dorothy Tallis VanCleve and Paul Maurice VanCleve; and her brother, Dudley Maurice VanCleve.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Washburn Ozbirn Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Birmingham; daughters, Monica VanCleve Waldon, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Paula Gayle Ozbirn, of Birmingham; grandchildren, Paul Thomas Ozbirn, James Stratt Byars IV, Harlie VanCleve Waldon, Justin Chase Miller and Jordan Corey Miller.
She was born July 30, 1927, and was raised in Montgomery, Ala. She graduated from the University of Alabama and was the president of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority while in college. She moved to Florence in 1952, and was active in the Muscle Shoals District Service League, later serving as President of the League.
She was employed for many years as the Parish Secretary and Treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she remained an active member until her death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday Jan. 14, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence. Visitation will be from 12–2 in the Parish Hall before the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Andrew C. Keyse.
Her children would like to thank her caregivers, Gayle Lowery, Sandy Sullivan and Gail Weldon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box M, Florence, AL 35631.
