Harry Eugene Stone, Sr., 93, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice. He was born November 18, 1920, in Tremont to Dr. J. H. and Vona Patton Stone. He was a 1942 graduate of Mississippi State University. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and was a lifelong farmer of the original Stone family homestead. He was a longtime member of the Tremont United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and served in multiple capacities. He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran having served in World War II. He was a charter member of the Tremont Lions Club and a founding member of the Tombigbee Bank and Trust, now Trustmark National Bank. He served as mayor of Tremont for 12 years and served on the Tremont local school board and the Itawamba County school board. He was a faithful follower of all MSU sports and loved supporting his grandchildren in all their activities.
Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday, December 24, at the Tremont United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eugene Stockstill, the Rev. Doyce Gunter, and the Rev. Ray Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his son, Harry E. Stone, Jr. (Pat) of Tremont; his daughter, Beth Stone Frick (Robert A.) of Tupelo; four granddaughters, Stephanie Stone Collier (Rick) of Fulton, Claire Stone Northington (Dewayne) and Kathryn Corinne Stone, both of Tremont, and Rachel Corinne Frick of Tupelo; one great-grandson, John Stone Collier.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne McRae Stone, who died January 12, 1987; his parents; and five brothers, John H. Stone III, Charles C. Stone, William O. Stone, Orville P. Stone, and James E. Stone.
Pallbearers will be Robert Don Whitehead, Don Whitehead, Harold Kennedy, Donnie Sartin, Darrell Harp, Sr., Bobby Canup, Ricky Roberts, and Frankie Yielding.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Pounders, John Marvin Pearce, Oneal Sartin, and the members of the Tremont Lions Club.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Monday, December 23, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton and from 10 a. m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
