M. C. “Bill” Woodruff – Obituary

M. C. “Bill” Woodruff, age 72 of Tuscumbia, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013. His family will receive friends, Thursday, December 12, 2013, 11-1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Randall Michael officiating. Bill was born on a farm in Horse Nation, MS, near the small town of Houston. He joined the U.S. Navy as a young man before beginning his professional career as a Georgia State Trooper. Bill continued his career in law enforcement with the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration as a special agent covering the United States and South America. He retired as a Colonel over the Southeast Division with the DEA in 1996, and pursued other business interests, including owning and managing an automotive sales business in Starkville, MS. One of Bill’s greatest joys was living on the river on Riverton Rose Trail in rural Colbert County. Bill was a mason and member of Vertagreen Lodge of Cherokee and Vernon Masonic Lodge of Vernon, AL. He was also a Shriner and member of Zamora Shriners of Shriners International He served as a founding member of the Riverton Rose Trail Volunteer Fire Department and loved the people of the community. He was preceded in death by his mother, Earline Middleton, his father, James Ralph Woodruff and brother, Stanford Woodruff.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Woodruff, step daughter, Dr. Leigh Ann Putman and husband Dan and longtime friend, Frank Williamson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Riverton Rose Trail Volunteer Fire Department, 9393 Riverton Rose Trail, Cherokee, AL 35616.

His family expresses special thanks to the fourth floor staff at Helen Keller Hospital, Dr. Andre’ Taylor, Dr. Randall Little, Dr.Lynn Ridgeway, the friends and family who have cared for Bill throughout the years and a very special thank you to Ken and Lynn Blackstock.
