Troopers Investigate 11 Traffic Deaths during Thanksgiving Weekend

crashMONTGOMERY– Alabama State Troopers investigated eight fatal traffic crashes that resulted in 11
deaths during this past Thanksgiving holiday travel period.
The 102-hour holiday travel period began at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, and ended at midnight
Sunday, December 1.
The eight fatal crashes occurred in Russell, Madison, Crenshaw, Walker, Autauga, Barbour,
Pickens and Talladega counties. According to preliminary investigation, alcohol was a factor in at
least three of the deadly incidents, and seven of the 11 individuals killed were not using seat belts
at the time of the crashes.
During this same holiday travel period in 2012, which was from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, to
midnight Sunday, November 25, troopers investigated five traffic deaths. The state total for this year’s
extended holiday travel period will not be available until later in the year.
