DECATUR- A rail car at the Daikin America plant on State Docks Road in Decatur has been the reason several
schools and intersections have been shut down today. It was determined the package contained marijuana and not a bomb, a Morgan County official said.
The rail car did not contain a bomb as was feared but did contain between 1 and 2 kilograms of marijuana. The package, the size of a telephone book was suspected to be a bomb. Upon closer investigation it was determined that then package was indeed marijuana.
It appears the package rode the rail all the way in from Mexico through Brownsville, Texas. The package was discovered earlier this morning in the dome top of the rail car. Employees noticed a broken seal on the dome and when they checked the broken seal discovered the package and reported it to their superiors at the plant.
Students from at least 11 schools and 2 local college campuses and employees at several other business were dismissed after Decatur Police Department were told of the strange package at 7:40 am.
