SHEFFIELD – Saturday in Sheffield started out pretty normal. You had your occasional stray cat strolling down Shop Pike. If you listened, you could hear the sounds of those hated freight trains cueing-up to block Montgomery and Atlanta Avenues. Carloads of people adorned in fantasy-themed costumes started encircling a local watering hole. They looked like an amalgam of morphed misfits and… what’s the word… of yeah – GEEKS. That’s it. So much for a normal Saturday morning.
On Facebook, the organizers of the event called it, “The Geek Gathering”. It was a Comic, Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi and Anime festival… Numero Uno. They said the intent was to bring the “CON” experience to our backyard. It appears they pulled it off. Proceeds went to support Big Brothers / Big Sisters.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take EVENT PHOTOS. We present them here. They can be downloaded and printed into a nice 5×7. So go ahead and knock yourself out! Please remember, NO COMMERCIAL use for these photos.
