Donald Warren Sherwin, 83, of Athens, died Tuesday at his residence. Mr. Sherwin was born June 23, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio. He served his country in the military stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota during the Korean War.
He met his wife, Winifred McConnell, while working as a printing manager in Cleveland. He was not a well known artist, but a great one. He has several paintings on permanent display at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, the Alabama Governor’s mansion and across the country.
Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Bethel Cemetery in Anderson with Bill Barlow officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Sherwin was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Cleveland. He retired from TVA as a technical illustrator.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred Sherwin, of Athens; his daughter, Deborah McCann and husband, Drayson, of Athens; by his stepsister, Joan Houska, of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wanda Pryber Sherwin; his stepmother, Elizabeth Sherwin; and by one brother, Richard Sherwin. He was also preceded in death by stepsisters, Walene Lutkewitte and Lois Olso.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
