$30,000 for worker training at Decatur business

Turner IndustriesMONTGOMERY— A $30,000 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley is helping 25 workers at a Decatur business learn valuable new job skills. folks at Turner

 

Turner Industries Group is training the employees in welding and pipefitting skills that will help secure additional business benefitting the company and employees. In operation since 2001, the company’s Decatur location makes piping systems and other metal equipment used in industrial facilities.

“When employees learn new skills and techniques, their company gets a boost, job security and career advancement opportunities improve and our state’s economy is strengthened,” Bentley said.

 

Workers who successfully complete the training will receive industry-recognized certifications and their long-range earning potential will be boosted ADECby 10-20 percent, Turner officials said. The company is contributing $49,161 toward the training.

 

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

 

Bentley notified James Mouch, Turner’s senior vice president, that he had approved the grant.
