GeorgeGeorge Robert Hibbett, Sr. 85 of Florence, AL passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Florence with the exception of ten years he lived in Clarksville, TN. He was a co-founder of Mended Hearts, and Day-by-Day. Former member of the Florence City Council, served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder at Sherrod Ave. and faithful member at Cross Point Church of Christ. He was actively involved with Meals on Wheels, Rotary Club, PTA, and Child Haven Children’s Home. He worked as a sales rep. for Hibbett and Sons Sporting Goods and retired as the owner of George Hibbett Insurance.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 12-1:00 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Frank Mills and Dr. Kenny Barfield officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; son, Thomas David Hibbett; father, Rufus Gleason Hibbett, Sr.; mother, Ann Lee Lester Hibbett; stepmother, Imogene Longshore Hibbett; brothers, Lester Lee Hibbett (Elaine), Rufus Gleason Hibbett, Jr. (Betty), Kenneth Barry Hibbett (Ann), and Eugene Prosser Hibbett (Jackie).
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Martha McKinney Hibbett; daughter, Judith Ann Hibbett Ennis; son, George Robert “Chip” Hibbett, Jr. (Debbye); grandchildren, Banks Ennis Gordy (Grant), Sarah Ennis Ashcraft, Houston Hibbett Ennis, Thomas Gleason Hibbett, Reece Pirkle Hibbett; great grandchildren, John Houston and Cooper Gordy, Carter and Anna Lake Ashcraft; brothers, Ira “Ike” Kneeland Hibbett (Barbara), Montgomery, AL and James “Jim” Truman Hibbett, Riverton, IL.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Houston Ennis, Thomas Hibbett, Reece Hibbett, Robert Crittenden, Ricky Crittenden, Jay Irons, Drew Irons, Trey Crittenden, Lane Crittenden, Kneeland Hibbett, Lee Hibbett, Ken Hibbett, Rob Hibbett, Brent Hibbett, Ryan Hibbett and Grant Gordy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Doss, Robert Lee Smith, Myron Gardner, HM “Fuzzy” Perritt, Lloyd Newton, Tommy Pirkle, and Keith Irons.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann and staff, Eldercare, Tennessee Valley Hospice and special care givers; Angela Newport, Cindy Juelfs, Mary Wood, Bro. Eddie Wix and the Ambassadors of Love from Cross Point.
