Mrs. Houser died on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at her residence. She was born November 16, 1942, in Morgan County to Woodrow Wilson Lawrence and Myrtle Elizabeth Muzzey Lawrence.

Emma Jean Lawrence Houser was born to Woodrow and Myrtle Lawrence on November 16, 1942, in Morgan County, Alabama, and attended school in Priceville. She married Grady Allen “Hoss” Houser on October 10, 1957. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

Jean was a devoted farmer’s wife, avid gardener, and loved working in her yard. She worked at Monsanto for several years before beginning her career with the Decatur Post Office. She was the second female mail carrier in Decatur and faithfully served Route 2 for 31 years. She and Grady were lifelong members of New Friendship Baptist Church in Somerville AL, where they taught and mentored youth for many years.

Jean always made sure everyone was cared for, whether it was a fabulous meal or the end of a fly swatter. Her kitchen was a gathering place, with plenty of food for visitors and gospel music always playing on the kitchen radio. The family farm was known for its open-door policy, reflecting Jean’s belief that everyone was welcome.

Maw Maw Jean showed her love through the many things she did for others. She was a seamstress who took pride in creating beautiful floral arrangements and had a gift for decorating. She loved using these skills to bless others, building everything from wreaths to room decorations. She was always ready to host a birthday or family celebration, finding joy in bringing everyone together and making each person feel at home.

Jean will be remembered for her strong work ethic and personality, generous heart, and deep love for her family. Her legacy will live on through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory:
