Rex E. Shackelford, Sr., age 87, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church prior to funeral services from 12:00pm until 1:00pm. Bro. Glenn Hughes to officiate. The body will be held at the residence for a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 after 5:00pm.

Rex was born on June 15, 1939 in Nettleton, MS to the late Claude Fenton Shackelford and the late Mary Nell Duncan Shackelford. He was a 1955 graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Rex previously worked at Cleveland Cap Crew Co. in Cleveland, OH, Conoco in Aberdeen, MS and Hyster in Sulligent, AL. He loved being outdoors either fishing or hunting and enjoyed going bowling, even played on a bowling team in Cleveland for 8 years and played fast-pitch softball for Cleveland Cap Crew Co. in Cleveland, OH. Rex also enjoyed playing his guitar at church, where he was actively involved. He was most proud of his family which he adored and loved spending time with his grands and great grandchildren. His gentle spirit and loving heart will forever be treasured by all those who loved and knew him.
