Kenneth Edgeworth was born on September 29, 1934 in Detroit, AL to the late Clovis Edgeworth and the late Ola Robinson Edgeworth. He graduated from Sulligent High School in 1953 and then attended the Andrew Jackson Business School in Nashville, Tennessee, until 1954. After college, Kenneth joined the United States Marine Reserves and served with them from 1954-1962. He married Jewel Thompson from Detroit, Alabama, in 1956 and they had three children; Bruce Edgeworth, Tony Edgeworth, and Terri Edgeworth Dennis.
In 1956 Kenneth began work at Detroit Slacks and worked there until 1968 when he began his forestry career as a pulpwood dealer. He started his own company, E&G Forest Products, which he incorporated in 1973 and served as its president. E&G Forest Products, Inc. shipped logs and pulpwood to paper mills and sawmills throughout the Southeast. Kenneth had his company until he retired in 2006.
Kenneth started flying lessons in 1961. He received his private pilot’s license in 1962, his commercial license in 1965, and his twin engine rating in 1972. He started Lamar Air Service, Inc. in 1974 and served as president of the company. He flew both freight and passengers. Unfortunately, health reasons forced Kenneth to quit flying in 1984.
Kenneth became a member of the Church of Christ in 1957. He served as Elder of the Detroit Church of Christ from 1962 to 1982. In 1982 he moved his family to Sulligent, Alabama, where the family worships at the Sulligent Church of Christ. He was asked to serve as Elder there in 1984. Maywood Christian Camp in Hamilton, Alabama, was opened in the early 1960’s and Kenneth was asked to serve on the board of directors. He has continued to be a part of Maywood for many years.
Kenneth served on the board of directors of Merchants and Farmers Bank in Millport, Alabama, from 1982-2006 when the bank was sold to West Alabama Bank. He previously served on the board of directors of Heritage Christian University in Florence, Alabama. Kenneth enjoyed going golfing, playing Rook, and talking with the coffee drinkers at Jack Rabbit Slims. He was very involved in his community and his generous heart and kind spirit will forever be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
