Jerry Abbott of Jasper, Alabama, passed away after a brief illness on October 5, 2026. Jerry Abbott was born on January 22, 1951.
He is survived by his Son-Jerry Wayne Abbott (Sharon Gilland Abbott); his Daughter-Jessica Abbott Whitlow (Travis Whitlow); and the Daughter of his heart-Stacy Jo Rigsby Cornelius. Jerry was a loving grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy will continue to live on in his Grandchildren-Trajon “Tray” Davis, Elijah Abbott (Taylor Horton Abbott), Haley Sutherland, Victoria Taylor Benson (Caleb Benson) and Jacob “Jake” Abbott; Great grandchild-Jody Grace Abbott.
He will be forever loved and remembered by his Siblings-Herman “HC” Abbott, Bill Abbott, Roy Abbott, Vernon Abbott, Frank Abbott, Judy Abbott Keeton, and Joyce Abbott O’Mary. Jerry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of special family and friends who loved him and will always remember his impact on their lives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his Son-Jeremie Byran Abbott; his Parents-Carl Abbott and Esther Brown Abbott; Siblings- James Thomas “TJ” Abbott, Sue Abbott Fowler, Loyce Abbott Berryhill and Henry Benjamen Abbott; and Granddaughter-Hannah Grace “Gracie” Abbott.
Jerry attended Curry High School, and beginning in 1975, built a long and dedicated career at P&M North River Mine in Berry, Alabama. Throughout his employment, he received service awards recognizing his commitment and years of hard work. He took great pride in his work and in being able to provide for his family. He was an active member of the UMWA Union District 20, Local 1926. Jerry retired after over 30 years of service. After retirement, Jerry devoted his time to raising cattle, something he took tremendous pride in. He enjoyed spending time with loyal friends at Arley Coffee Shop.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice for the compassion, comfort, and support they provided to Jerry and his family during his final days.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, October 8, 2026 beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Richard Handley officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tray Davis, Elijah Abbott, Jake Abbott, JonTyler Abbott, Casan Kilpatrick and Ridge Key.
A private reception for the family will be provided by Philadelphia Baptist Church at Burrows Crossing.
