Vaughn MacArthur Maness (Mack) was born on September 3, 1943, and died peacefully on October 3, 2026 at his home with his family by his side. Mack was a devoted family man, an enthusiastic sportsman, a hardworking career man, and a child of God. Mack had a very happy life filled with a wonderful loving family, an exciting bunch of friends, and a God who promised him eternal life with his Savior, Jesus.
Mack was survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy “Candy” Maness who was his devoted caretaker, along with his two sons, Mack Maness Jr. (Kay) and Mark Maness (Lori). He has five grandchildren, Jessica Yeater (Chris), Mack III aka Mackie, Chase, Marley, and Cy and two great grands, Grayson and Allison Yeater. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy Darrel (Betty) Maness. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Dent and Earlie Maness, and a brother Wayne Maness.
Mack loved all kinds of sports. He loved to fish, hunt, drive a fast ski boat, he trained and rode horses, rode motorcycles (dirt biking), and loved and hated golf (depended on his score each round). One of his greatest passions was coaching Little League baseball for fourteen years. He used this venue to not only teach baseball skills, but instill values such as honesty, rewards of hard work, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. He never had a losing season and he gained a lot of lifelong friends.
Mack had a strong desire to try to make the world a better place, especially for children. He was a member of the Henderson County School Board for several years and Chairman for many of those years. He had a passion for the Accelerated Reading Program and championed that project throughout his terms. He truly wanted children to enjoy the value of reading. Mack was a Mason and embraced the values of this great organization.
Mack was a hard and enthusiastic worker from sports competitions to his job, he gave it his all. He enjoyed working hard and making friends through his job. Mack worked for UST for 31 years and during that time became the Number One National Salesman for the entire company which resulted in his picture on the cover of their National Magazine. Whether a Little League game, a golf match, or his job, Mack competed. He gave every activity his very best and enjoyed the process.
Mack’s greatest thing in life was when he gave his heart and soul to Jesus Christ. He knew he had an eternal home with his Lord and Savior when his life was over. Mack was a member of Central Grove Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was Sunday School teacher for a time. He truly loved the Lord with all his being.
