Fred Barrett Profile Photo  Fred K. Barrett, age 80, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. A native of Smyrna, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Willie J. Barrett and Edna Azilee Ross Barrett.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Claudette Barrett; daughter, Tammy Barrett; grandson, Matt Shook; and siblings, Kenneth, James Lewis, Frank, Robert “Toby,” and Howard Barrett, Christine Paschal, Irene Huddleston, and Martha Sue Butner.

Fred is survived by his children, Kimberly Frazier and husband Jason, and Jason Barrett and wife Trea; grandchildren, Bobby Shook, Seth and wife Caitlin, Spencer and wife Kaylee Haley, Jordyn Frazier, and Courtney, Emma, and Eli Barrett; great-grandchildren, Raylan Wimberly, Isabella, Colton, Jackson, Henry, and Teddy Haley; sisters, Mary Pitts and Shirley Graham; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Fred was a proud United States Army veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. His service to his country was a source of great pride throughout his life. He was a member of Elkins Creek Church of Christ.

Fred spent much of his working life as a tile contractor. He was a hardworking man who knew the value of doing a job right and took pride in his work. More importantly, he was devoted to his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply, and the time he spent with those he loved meant more to him than anything.

Those who knew Fred will remember his strength, determination, and straightforward nature, along with the love and loyalty he had for his family and friends. He lived a life marked by hard work, service, and devotion to those closest to him. His family is grateful for the many years, memories, stories, and lessons they were blessed to share with him.

Visitation with the Barrett family will be Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank Adoration Hospice and the Tennessee Veterans home for such wonderful care and compassion.
