ATHENS-For the month of October, you will notice something a little different about the officers at the Athens Police Department, and it will definitely catch your eye. Our officers will be trading in their standard silver badges for the second month in a row, but this time for bright pink badges in honor of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month.
This now annual tradition has become a meaningful way for our department to show support for survivors, those currently battling the disease, and the families affected by the loss of a loved one to the disease.
“Our department is proud to go pink each October to stand with our community in the fight against breast cancer,” said Chief Anthony Pressnell. “This is personal for several of our officers and families. Wearing the pink badge is a way for them to remember those they may have lost, and to really just remind everyone of the importance of early detection.”
In addition, the Athens Police Department’s pink patrol car is back out on the road for another year. The fan-favorite cruiser will make its usual stops at events throughout the community all month long to help continue raising awareness.
Be sure to give our officers a wave if you see them, and talk to them about what the pink badge means to them.
