John Patterson Luckie Jr. 49754121 Rev. John P. Luckie, Jr., was born on June 18, 1949 in Greenville, Alabama.

God called him home September 28, 2026 in Ashland, Alabama. Visitation is at

He will lie in state from 10:00 until service time.

His parents were John P. (Pat) Luckie, Sr. and Nell Heaton Luckie. The family lived

in Mobile and Pensacola as he was growing up. He graduated from Whitworth

College in Brookhaven, MS, and during his life pastored churches in Mississippi,

Alabama and Louisiana. Bro. John has served as pastor at Pleasant Hill Methodist

Protestant Bible Church in Ashland for the last 42 years and has served as

Principal of Maranatha Christian Academy during this time.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Kelley Luckie; brothers Eugene

Luckie and Marvin Luckie; nieces Angie Luckie and Hope Luckie-Grasse; nephews

John Luckie, Michael Luckie, and Dillon Luckie; Sharon’s family, who became his

own; long-time friend , Jim Sherman, who is like a brother; and a host of friends

and relatives.

As a school bus driver for 29 ½ years in Clay County, he was known to strict but

fair. Almost everywhere he went, someone who rode his bus would say

“Hey, Mr. Luckie.”

He loved life; he loved people; he loved laughter; he loved Alabama football;

he loved the Lord and loved to preach. Bro. John loved the Methodist Protestant

Bible Church and all the pastors and members were like family to him. He and

Sharon served in many Youth Camps through the years doing puppets, gospel

Magic, lessons, and recreation and has a large “family” of camp kids that they

love and who love them. His motto was “Don’t Quit.” His message to all of us

is “Set your house in order because Jesus is coming back sooner than many folks

think.”

Memorials may be sent to Maranatha Christian Academy, 2296 Pleasant Hill Road Ashland, AL 36251.

Special thanks to Hospice of Clay County and Benefield Funeral Home for their kindness and compassion to us.
