Marilyn Sue Fowler, a faithful Christian, a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed from this earthly life on September 26, 2026 at the age of 81 in Gurley, AL, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Sue was born on January 11, 1945 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Burtie Nickels White Camp and Robert White. She attended Dill City School and throughout her life, she carried with her the kindness, strength, and warmth that would touch so many people.
Sue lived a life centered on love and caring for others. She spent many years working as an Activities Director at Golden Oaks Village/Nursing Home in Enid, Oklahoma, where she brought joy, laughter, and companionship to those in her care. After moving to Alabama to be closer to her family, she continued doing what came naturally to her-loving and caring for others-working as an Activities Director at several nursing homes.
But of all the things Sue did in her life, nothing meant more to her than her family. She was a faithful wife to her husband Rocky, a devoted mother to Kim, Russell, and Matt; a proud grandmother to Nikki (husband, Josh), Logan, Cody, and Alex (wife, Jackie); and a loving great-grandmother to Beau, Ansley, and Brooks. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment she was able to spend with them.
Sue is survived by her faithful husband, Rocky; She is also survived by her children, Kim Arnold and Matt Choate; Matt’s wife and her favorite daughter-in-law, Crystal; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Bobby White, her nieces and nephews; and her two furry companions, Baby and Bandit, who faithfully stayed by her side and brought her comfort and companionship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Carolyn, Maxine, Alta Mae, Jimmy, Tommy, and her son Russell Choate.
After retiring, Sue filled her days with the simple things that brought her the most happiness. She loved attending gospel singings and church services, going out to eat with family and friends, getting her hair and nails done with her daughter Kim and granddaughter Nikki, and, most of all, spending precious time with the people she loved.
Sue was a longtime member of East Huntsville Church of Christ, where her faith was an important part of who she was. She loved her church family dearly and had a special way of making everyone around her feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Those who knew Sue will remember so much more than the things she accomplished. They will remember her laughter. Her kindness. Her sassiness. Her unforgettable personality. They will remember her mispronounced words and the funny words she sometimes made up all on her own. They will remember the way she could make people laugh when they needed it most. Sue simply loved making people smile.
She had a gift for making people feel loved, and she gave that love freely. Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, a good laugh, or simply being there, Sue made a difference in the lives of countless people. Her presence brought warmth into a room, and her absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Sue’s earthly journey is complete and that her faith has carried her home to her Eternal reward. While their hearts are broken by her passing, they are grateful for every memory, every laugh, every hug, every conversation, and every moment they were blessed to share with her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to Hospice Family Care, especially her nurse and caregivers Kelsey, Barbara, Mahaley, and Emily. They cared for Sue with extraordinary kindness, compassion, and love, treating her not simply as a patient, but as family. The care they provided brought comfort and peace during an incredibly difficult time, and the family will always be grateful for the love they showed Sue.
Sue leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Until we meet again, you are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Visitation will be Friday 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Friday at 2:00 PM with Bro. Bill Cantrell and Matt Choate officiating. Pallbearers will be Logan Arnold, Jacob Stephens, Caleb Lehman, Brad Bowen, Steven Allen, Matt Phillips.
Interment will be in Ragsdale Cemetery.
