John W. Hosea, of Scottsboro, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on September 22, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud United States Army veteran, John lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and country.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cindy Hosea, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories.
He is survived by his son, John M. Hosea, and daughter-in-law, Sara Hosea, of Granbury, Texas; his four granddaughters, Casey Hughes and her husband, Douglas Hughes; Mackenzie Hardy and her husband, Staff Sergeant Kyle Hardy US Army; Madison Hosea; and Tyler Hosea. He also leaves behind his great-grandson, Douglas Edward Hughes IV.
A proud patriot, John honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army. His military service included assignments with the prestigious 5th Special Forces Group and the 101st Airborne Division. As a paratrooper and UH-1 Huey helicopter door gunner, he served during one of the most challenging periods in American military history. His courage, dedication, and commitment to his fellow soldiers remained defining aspects of his life.
Following his military service, John continued his commitment to national security through several years of service with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He subsequently pursued a distinguished career as a government contractor and engineer, contributing his knowledge and expertise to several aerospace and defense companies. His professional career eventually led him to the Missile Defense Agency, where he dedicated many years to supporting the nation’s missile defense mission. His work reflected a lifelong commitment to protecting the country he had proudly served in uniform.
After retiring in 2017, John relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he enjoyed the next chapter of his life. In 2021, he returned to Scottsboro, Alabama, where he spent his remaining years.
Throughout his life, John embodied the values of service, perseverance, and dedication. From the battlefields of Vietnam to his work in national defense, his contributions extended far beyond himself. Yet, among his many accomplishments, his greatest legacy remains the family he leaves behind. He will be remembered for the life he lived, the sacrifices he made, the stories he shared, and the lasting impact he had on those who knew and loved him. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, they find comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved Cindy.
His mission on earth is complete. His legacy lives on through the generations who follow him.
Rest easy, Soldier. Your watch is over.
