Morris Davis, 98, of Carbon Hill, passed away at his home on September 25, 2026.
After earning his bachelor’s degree from Livingston State Teachers College (now the University of West Alabama) and his master’s degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, Morris began his career teaching business classes at Dora High School. He was soon called into military service at Fort Benning, Georgia, during the Korean War.
After his military service, he briefly resumed his teaching career at Dora before serving at Eldridge Junior High School, Itawamba Junior College in Mississippi, Winfield High School, and Kansas Elementary and Junior High School, where he worked as both a teacher and principal. He later came to Carbon Hill High School, where he spent the majority of his career. There, he first taught business classes and served as guidance counselor before becoming principal. He retired in 1982 as principal of Carbon Hill High School and superintendent of the Carbon Hill City School System.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzo Davis and Pearl Stokes Davis; his brothers, I.L. Davis Jr. and Verner Davis; and his sister, Mary Ruth Davis McNeill.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audie Jackson Davis; his sons, John Morris Davis and his wife, Jennifer Liles Davis, and James Kenneth Davis; his granddaughters, Erika Davis and Jenny Lynn Davis; his great-granddaughter, Emma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper, with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Scott McCullar will officiate.
Morris was a member of First Baptist Church Carbon Hill for over 50 years.
