Film Screening and Discussion, “Crime and Punishment in America”

FLORENCE-Join the University of North Alabama’s Restorative Justice Lab for an exclusive screening of selections from Ken Burns’ newest documentary “Crime and Punishment in America,” which premieres Nov 16 on PBS. The 60-minute screening will include popcorn and will be followed by a 30-minute facilitated discussion by restorative justice practitioner Nikesha Tilton.

The screening is connected to Justice & the Next 250, a national initiative involving the Just Trust. Faith in Action Alabama (FIAAL) is bringing the conversation to Alabama as part of their People’s Agenda justice priority.

-Examine how our understanding of crime, punishment, and justice has developed;

-Engage students and community members in reimagining safety, accountability, restoration, and justice in Alabama;

-Identify how faith communities, universities, community organizations, and residents can help shape the future;

-Connect the conversation to continued action through Faith in Action’s Peoples’ Agenda and through UNA’s Restorative Justice Lab.
