Gloria Tackett, of Florence, AL, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on September 23, 2026.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 28 2026, 1pm – 2pm at Greenview Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2pm in Greenview Chapel with Dr. Roger Mardis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Gloria lived a life filled with love, faith, creativity, and service to others. She was a talented Beautician and dedicated many years to serving the people of Lauderdale County. She worked with both the Lauderdale County Circuit Clerk’s Office and the Lauderdale County Probate Judge’s Office. She was also a member of the Florence, Alabama Beautification Board and proudly served as Chairperson of the Lauderdale County Board of Registrars.
Gloria was an avid artist who also found great joy in arts and crafts. She loved gardening and you would often find her outside pruning and pampering her plants and flowers. She loved creating beautiful things and sharing her creativity with others. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she devoted her time to teaching others as a Vacation Bible School teacher and Sunday School teacher.
But above all of her accomplishments, Gloria was a devoted wife and loving mother who cherished her family.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years, Gene Tackett; daughters, Gina Aycock and Kathy Davenport; sons, Bobby Tackett and Russ Tackett; and her sister, Benzie (Howard) Stanfield.
Gloria was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she gave them will continue through the generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. “Bob” and Carnella Highfield; her daughter, Bridget Sherrill; Son-in-Law, Joey Holder and her grandsons, Ty Sherrill and Nicholas Tackett.
Gloria will be remembered for her loving heart, strong faith, creative spirit, dedication to her community, and, most of all, the love she gave to her family.
The lessons she taught, the lives she touched, and the memories she created will remain with her family and friends forever.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
