Phyllis Ferguson, 67, entered into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on September 21, 2026. Born on February 13, 1959, to Lucy and Charles Ferguson, Phyllis built a life full of family, laughter, and love.
Phyllis was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and later moved to her home in Scottsboro, Alabama. She was the second-youngest of four children, but that never stopped her from keeping them in line. From a young age, Phyllis had a way of touching the lives of everyone she met with her fierce spirit and freely given love.
She was known for her larger-than-life personality and the unforgettable impression she left on those around her. She enjoyed playing cards, assembling puzzles, listening to country music, drinking black coffee with just a little bit of cold water, and, of course, snacking on her favorite Little Debbie treats.
Phyllis was a stubborn as a mule and fought hard to protect her family-even if that loyalty sometimes got her into a little trouble. She devoted much of her life to providing for and working hard for her family. She gave the ultimate devotion of her life to Jesus Christ, and her family finds comfort in knowing there will be a great reunion in Heaven.
If she didn’t steal your heart with her kindness, she was sure to win you over with a plate of her famous fried chicken. Phyllis had a way of making people feel loved, whether through a listening ear, a good laugh, or a home-cooked meal.
Phyllis was truly the kind of friend anyone would be fortunate to have, and those who had the privilege of knowing her will deeply miss her unwavering friendship. Her family will remember her for being unapologetically spunky, beautiful, and strong.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Charles Ferguson, and her son Jeremy Breedwell.
She is survived by her brothers, Stan Ferguson and Bobby Ferguson, and her sister, Judy Oden. She is also survived by her children, Sonya (Randy) Lafon, Shellie (Jessie) McGaha, and Audie (Savannah) Murphy; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
She is also survived by the grandchildren whom she cherished: Jonathan Ash, Austin Lafon, Alexis (Cody) Martin, Christopher McGaha, Savannah McGaha, Paisley Ford, Brycen Murphy, Canaan Murphy, and Hux Murphy; and her great-grandchildren, Camryn Ash and Cohen Martin.
Her family would like to recognize and give a special thanks to Cheryl Jett.
A visitation service will be held at New Hope Funeral Home on September 25,2026 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her funeral service will be held on September 26, 2026 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home, with burial taking place at Goosepond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Hope Funeral Home. Her love and strength remain a guiding presence for all who knew her.
