Robert “Bob” Monroe Elser Jr., age 78, of Center Star AL, passed away September 18, 2026, surrounded by dear friends.
Born in Kyoto, Japan to a military family, Bob spent his life devoted to Christ, his wife, Bobbi, his country, and countless friends he considered his family.
Bob was a servant leader at heart who was always willing to stop what he was doing to serve others.
Right after high school, Bob volunteered in the war effort in Vietnam. He courageously served three years through three major combat campaigns and made it home safely. During his time in Vietnam, Bob was awarded many medals and commendations for his leadership, bravery, and expertise.
He later married Bobbi Hertha of Huntsville, AL, which is where they settled and built their lives.
Bob worked at UPS for 40 plus years and was a master-stained glass artist. Many of his works are on display in the windows of many surrounding churches including Killen Methodist Church, St. James Methodist Church in Florence, Elkins East Funeral Home, and countless others. He also taught the art of stained glass briefly at UNA and other campuses. Bob was preceded in death by both his parents and his loving wife, Bobbi.
Upon his request, Bob will be laid to rest during a graveside service on Thursday, September 24th at Maple Hill Cemetery at 10 am. Elkins East Chapel is honored to assist the family.
