Vickie was born in Chambersburg, PA; but raised in both PA and the mountains of west Virginia, where she was constantly up to something with her cousins and siblings. Vickie Sharon Kirby was born on October 10, 1956; the middle of 7 children ((Susie (Bert) Mackey, Pattie (Bob) Mowery, Kathy (Terry) Chamberlin, Dee (Courtney) Stee, Kyle (Anita) Kirby and Doris (Roger) Kebler)) to her parents Alvin and Bessie Kirby in which preceded her in their homecoming, as well as Sue and Kyle….

For her, growing up in the 60s and 70s was a wild ride full of adventure. And in 1976 she decided to change the adventure and join the Army. After a short time she soon discovered that the army wasn’t for her after all, and she soon met Johnny and became Mrs Vickie Miner. After a few years in Florida they traveled north and settled back into Shippensburg with their son Steven, and went on to have two daughters; Stephanie (Ricky) White and Samantha (Tim) Page. Vickie always had a passion for writing poems, occasionally for the newspaper and short stories; a few in which were published. Her creativity and desire to make things beautiful flourished once she and her family moved to MS. Whether she was painting rocks for the garden or spending way too much money on flowers to plant, she most definitely always had a project going. The out doors is where she was most comfortable, walking in nature with her many cats as they entertained her on her down time. When she wasn’t in the yard climbing trees (yes, still climbing trees in her 60s!) or mowing the grass you could nearly always find her with her best friend Barb Floyd. Where they might be is a different story all together though. From New Orleans, Tennessee, Florida, and Las Vegas; they surely had an unforgettable time together. But as much wild adventures as Vickie liked to have she was also a proud member of Macedonia Baptist Church and enjoyed the retreats and trips they would go on as well. However, I can say without hesitation that her all time favorite thing to do besides reading a good whimsical novel was bowling. She was a team captain and player for several teams and leagues here in New Albany over the years, making memories and friends along the way. But I believe her fondest memories were those of her many cherished nieces and nephews and of her grandchildren. Sky, Nazereth, Gaven, Lakan, and Derrick were her pride and joy. The holidays and birthdays and in-between visits were truly what she lived for. She loved deeply and lived life to the fullest. Find comfort in knowing that she’s now celebrating with The Most High and looking down on all of those she carried close to her heart.
Glenfield Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mrs. Miner.
