Mary Frances Hammond Turpen, 96, of Anderson Alabama passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026. Mary was born on December 9, 1929 in Grassy, Alabama to Onus and Emily Hammond. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1949 and started working at Farmers Bank in Anderson, Alabama on January 2, 1950. She retired from Southtrust Bank after 35 years as Operations Officer.
She had a love for plants and birds (especially roses and hydrangeas) and spent many late hours working in her flower beds. She also loved crocheting which she started at a young age taking her work to the field to crochet when she had the time. Mary had a talent for playing the piano by ear and continued to play for many years. Lastly, she enjoyed looking at the night sky and the stars and was known for going out late at night or the early morning looking at the sky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William (Bill) Samuel Turpen of Bonnertown, TN; parents – Onus Alexander and Emily Belle Sinyard Hammond; brothers – James Alexander and Henry Leroy Hammond. Survived by her daughter Nancy (Mike) Tolliver; grandson – Matthew (Melissa) Tolliver and two great grandchildren, Sutton Marie and Celine June Tolliver; Samantha (Sammie) Francene her Silky Terrier and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2026 from 12-1 at Rogersville Funeral Home with service at 1 and burial following at Grassy Memorial Cemetery. Elder Tim Cunningham will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Tolliver, Rodney Hammond, Josh Hammond, Clint Grissom, Jay Belue, Brad Belue and Honorary Pallbearer – Mark Hammond.
