Mrs. Ida Evelyn Wood, age 93 years and 10 months, of Shelbyville, TN passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Carriage House Inn, Senior Living Center, in Shelbyville. She was born on November 14, 1932 in Van Buren County, TN to parents Elzie Raymond Russell and Recie Witt Russell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Robert Lee Wood, brother R.J. Russell, Jr., sisters Shella Marseglla, Shirley Hillis, Mary Jo Steakley, Lorene Rigsby, Lorelle Smith, and Clayta Escabedo. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and great nanny.
Mrs. Wood is survived by precious daughter, Marlene Horton Jacobs, special grandson, Justin (Cassy) Jacobs, great-grandchildren, J.J. Jacobs, Brailee Jacobs, and Riley (Hope) Colvin who were lovingly known as “Nanny’s Babies”, and Mason Searcy – her heart great-grandbaby.
Funeral services for Evelyn Wood are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 24, 2026 in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Ron Adcock will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
