Logo Icon Austin “Gomer” Taylor age 77 of Smithville, passed away Friday morning, September 18, 2026, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville.  Austin was born November 22, 1948, in DeKalb County to his parents, the late E.J. and Edna Massey Taylor.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Taylor.  He was a truck driver, farmer and a paint and body man for 50 years.  Gomer enjoyed time with his cattle and granddaughter and being in the hayfield.  He was affiliated with Mt. Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years, Billie Wootton Taylor of Smithville; daughter, Nicole (Sam Meredith) Taylor of Smithville; grandchildren, Skylar Alanis and Daniel Meredith; two sisters, Betty Cooper of Smithville, Doris (Wayne) Malone of Dowelltown; one brother, Bobby Taylor of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Fay Gilreath and Allen England and several lifelong friends.  Funeral services will be 5 PM Thursday, September 24, 2026 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bernard Houk officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday 1 PM until the time of the service at 5 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Taylor family.
