James Robert Pairs, age 71 of Portland passed away Thursday evening September 17, 2026 at his home. He was born October 25, 1954 in Springfield, TN to Willis D. Pairs, Sr. & Elsie May Felts Pairs. He worked in the construction industry until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, small mechanic work, watching westerns and The Andy Griffith show, playing golf in his younger years and reminiscing about his past. More than anything else he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommy Pairs and Willis Pairs, Jr.; sisters, Ruby Pairs, Barbara Denson, Mildred Parks, Shirley (Frank) Lassiter and Mary (Buster) Carter; brother-in-law, Edward Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 51-1/2 years, Alice Pairs; son, Scott (Mary) Pairs, White House, TN; daughter, Tammy (Jonathon) Hancock, Portland, TN; sister, Dorothy Smith, White House, TN; sister-in-law, Brenda (Skip) Pairs Johnson, Springfield, TN; 4 grandchildren, Austin Pairs, Braden Pairs, Braxton Hancock and Carter Hancock. Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 12pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Brenda Pairs Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Portland Memorial Gardens with Austin Pairs, Braden Pairs, Braxton Hancock, Carter Hancock, Scott Pairs and Jonathon Hanock serving as pallbearers. Visitation is planned for Monday, September 21, 2026 4-8PM at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House and Tuesday, September 22, 2026 10AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
