Kelly McElyea-Penny
Kelly, a cherished soul born on December 4, 1958, in Huntsville, Alabama, peacefully departed this world surrounded by the love of her family on September 15, 2026. Her journey through life was marked by kindness, unwavering strength, and a profound love for those around her.
Kelly was the beloved daughter of Billy Ray McElyea and Patricia Ann McElyea, who preceded her in death, along with her dear grandparens. She is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, John (Richie) Penny, who was her steadfast companion and partner in life. Together, they built a family rooted in love and resilience.
Kelly’s legacy lives on through her children: Michael Wayne McElyea and his partner Kelly Ann, Michelle Star McElyea and her partner Danny, Christopher John Neutze and his wife Angela, Bobby Bragdon, and Summer Mullins Hill and her husband Wayne, Brandi Everett and her husband Justin, Amber Penny and her partner Jody. Her family was her pride and joy, and her love extended to her nine grandchildren: Robert, Hunter, and Zachary Bragdon; Michael, Ethan, and Carter McElyea; Jake Neutze; and Hunter and Katelyn Carroll, Nedora and Tyrgrimm Everett, and Jace Woodard each of whom she adored deeply.
She is also survived by her sisters, Pamela Chamberlain and Michelle Hallum, her niece Chasady Ochoa, and her nephew Derrick Clayton and his wife Briana. Her family further includes great-nieces and nephews Nevaeh, Tay, Brandon, Harmony, Royalty, Wesley, and Jake all of whom cherished their Aunt Kelly an her father’s wife Judy McElyea whom she had a cherished friendship with.
Kelly’s professional life was as vibrant as her personal one. Her adventurous spirit led her to earn her CDL, a path that introduced her to Richie. Together, they embarked on many cross-country journeys, sharing countless adventures and memories. Her career in driving allowed her to explore the country, but her heart always brought her back home. Upon retiring, Kelly delighted in being present for the birth of her grandchildren, nurturing them into the remarkable individuals they are becoming.
A woman of warmth and generosity, Kelly had a gift for bringing people together. Her love for cooking was matched only by her passion for hosting family cookouts, where laughter and love were always on the menu. Her home was a haven where everyone felt welcomed and valued.
Kelly was the cornerstone of her family, known affectionately as “our rock.” Her compassion knew no bounds, and she was always ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength; her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her.
In these moments of reflection, her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in her care during her final moments. Their kindness and dedication provided immense comfort and peace.
